December 28, 2009:

All of the decision letters for the Utah Winter Finance Conference dual submission papers have now gone out. If you are expecting to receive one and have not then please contact Matthew Spiegel at your earliest convenience.

December 8, 2009:

The Utah Winter Finance Conference reviews have been forwarded to the RFS. We hope to have decisions out prior to the New Year. Unfortunately, at this point that cannot be guaranteed. The editor in charge of the reviews, Matthew Spiegel, will soon be on the road for two weeks. But he has promised to work on processing the 100+ submissions from the conference as quickly as possible.

November 3, 2009:

August 24, 2009:

Today is a major day in the development of the RFS web page. After some technical difficulties the web page has moved to a private web hosting service. This will help speed up its future development and hopefully provide additional stability since it will no longer have to change locations when the editorial board changes.

July 5, 2009:

The RFS wants to extend its wholehearted thanks to our retiring Associate Editors Thomas Chemmanur, Tarun Chordia, Gurdip Bakshi, Lubos Pastor, Allen Poteshman, and Jeffrey Pontiff for their dedicated service over the past three years. At the same time we would like to welcome our new Associate Editors Michael Roberts, Jay Hartzell, Lauren Cohen, Martijn Cremers, Lu Zhang, and Lu Zheng to the the board. We look forward to working with them.

Congratulations to this year’s RFS award winners:

  • Michael J. Brennan Best Paper Prize
    • First Prize: Ivo Welch and Amit Goyal for their article, “A Comprehensive Look at The Empirical Performance of Equity Premium Prediction.”
    • Second Prize: Mihir Desai, Fritz Foley, and Kristin Forbes for their article, “Financial Constraints and Growth: Multinational and Local Firm Responses to Currency Depreciations.”
  • Young Researcher Prize: Gustavo Manso, Bruno Strulovici, and Alexei Tchistyi for their article, “Performance-Sensitive Debt.”
  • Outstanding Referee Award goes to Francisco Gomes for his tireless work on behalf of the RFS.
  • A single award to honor those who contribute their time far above and beyond the call of duty to the RFS misses the many individuals deserving recognition for their efforts. To help rectify this, the RFS pleased to announce the introduction of the Distinguished Referee Award! This inaguaral winners are: Viral Acharya, Lu Zhang, Francisco Gomes, Gurdip Bakshi, Robin Greenwood, Alex Edmans, and Massimo Massa.

June 13, 2009:

The annual RFS members’ meeting will start at 5pm in the Marriott’s Santa Rosa Room on June 19. (Who is a member? Anybody that either subscribes to the journal, has submitted a paper in the past year, or has paid the annual membership fee.) At 6pm the RFS and BGI will host a reception for all attending the WFAs in the Marriott’s Seaview Room. We hope to see you at both events.

April 29, 2009:

The RFS is sorry to report that Professor Raman Uppal has decided to retire from his editorial duties when his term ends on July 1. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors. At the same time we are, of course, pleased to announce that on the very same day Professor Pietro Veronesi will start his term as editor. The editors would like to extend him a warm welcome and we hope the entire academic community will join us in doing so.

February 24, 2009:

The RFS is pleased to announce that it will co-sponsor with the Yale School of Management a conference on the financial crises. The ultimate goal will be to produce a special issue on the topic. Authors are welcome to submit papers to journal under its conference dual review system. Please see the conference announcement for details.

January 4, 2009:

We want to thank all of the authors that submitted articles through the dual review process with the Utah Winter Finance Conference. One hundred percent of the decisions have now gone out. If you have not heard from us as of now something has gone wrong and you should contact the RFS. We will then try to resolve the matter.
