Manuscripts should be accompanied by a submission fee of $240 for electronic submissions by members of the Society for Financial Studies. Nonmembers will be charged an additional $60; this will not include a free subscription to the journal. Paying the nonmember fee of $300 will give you a one-year membership to the Society for Financial Studies. Any nonelectronic submission will be charged an additional $25. You may pay your submission fee by either credit card or check; however, if you pay by check your paper will not be processed until the check clears! If the check does not clear there will be an additional fee of $30 that must also be paid prior to the processing of your manuscript. A submission fee must accompany your manuscript (whether an initial or resubmission) unless the fee has been explicitly waived by one of the journal’s editors.
Please also see our Review Policy for more information regarding the review process and refunds.
If you plan to pay by check, please read the following!
All checks (whether from the U.S. or elsewhere) MUST have encoding at the bottom. Banks use this string of numbers to automatically route checks to the appropriate source. If your check does not have encoding it will be returned to you, and you will be asked to send a new check. Without encoding our bank will not process your check.
Checks in U.S. dollars payable against a non-U.S. bank (for example, a check written off of a German bank in U.S. dollars) are not acceptable. Checks must be written against banks with an associated U.S. branch. Acceptable checks have encoding and typically a U.S. clearing bank, such as Citibank U.S., noted somewhere on the check.
If you are paying by check, please make the check payable to “Society for Financial Studies” and mail the payment to:
Kelley School of Business
1309 East Tenth Street
Bloomington, IN 47405
You can submit your manuscript electronically by clicking Submit a Paper. Once your paper has been successfully submitted you will receive a confirming e-mail and a manuscript number. If you do not receive an e-mail confirming successful submission, your submission did not enter the system properly. Often this is because the final “submit” button was not clicked. Use the link in the email you received when you began your submission to go back to your in-process submission and ensure you fully completed the submission process.
Nonelectronic submissions should be addressed to:
Society for Financial Studies
PO Box 28494
Raleigh, NC 27611
After the editorial office receives your paper either a confirming e-mail (if you provided an e-mail address) or letter will be sent. If you do not receive a timely confirmation, then your paper has not been received by the editorial office. Either mail another copy of the manuscript or contact the editorial office for additional assistance.
